A Library is the heart and backbone of any institution. It is commonly believed that "the nation that reads is the nation that leads". Keeping this view in mind the Indian Institute of Legal Studies provides a reading room which is spread over 7000Sq. ft. having ample amount of study materials and books. The location of the library is such that it provides an ambience of calmness with eye-catching view of the Himalayas and gentle breeze blowing.

The library is air conditioned with Wi-Fi facilities for both the students and faculty members so that they can have access to the Internet. The library maintains a compendious subscription of journals and magazines which are updated frequently.

Books, journals and magazines have been organized in an exhaustive and scientific mode in order to support research work in various disciplines. The institution subscribes to all local daily newspapers which are displayed in the library for the students.

LIBRARY BOOKS

The library has a collection of over 1500 titles and more than 9000 volumes of bound periodicals as well as a sizeable collection of electronic materials in CD-ROMs and legal database providing online access to major legal platforms including AIR, Calcutta High Court Notes, Gazettes, Company Law Journals, Complete digest of Supreme Court Cases, Indian Bar Reviews, India International Journal of Judicial Sciences, Westlaw, Lexis Nexis and Manupatra online. The library has also acquired complete sets of Public Law, Company Law. AIR, SSC, CWN, CHN etc. The Law library is equipped with All England Law Report and also other International Journals. As an integral component of the academic programmes the library fully supports the Institute's teaching and research work.

There has been a rapid growth in the stockpile of the library of our institution. We also subscribe numerous periodicals and daily newspapers. The periodicals are displayed in the Library and accessible to all the members. The newspaper are displayed the library and four other locations on various floors.

LIBRARY RULES AND REGULATIONS

  • Every student must possess his/her Library Card or College Identity Card while making use of Library.
  • Strict discipline must be maintained in the Library.
  • Silence is to be maintained.
  • Using of Cellular phones and audio instrument are prohibited, students must keep their phones in switched off mode.
  • Only one book shall be issued in one library card for a period of seven (7) days. If the students are having 2 library cards, they can issue two books together, for period of seven (7)
  • days.
  • In case of loss of library card, the student have to lodge an FIR and have to submit a copy of FIR along with Rs 200 for each library card after which a duplicate library card shall be issued from the library.
  • Identity card shall be deposited in the library if the book/books are issued on daily basis.
  • No Journals/Periodicals/Bare Acts shall be issued to the students. They can only be used for reading and reference in the library itself.
  • Lending period is 7 days, after which a book has to be returned/ re-issued failing which, a fine will be imposed at the rate of Rs 20/- per day including Sunday/holidays.
  • Library Card is not transferable and the borrower will be solely responsible for the book/books borrowed.
  • Before taking the book/books students should check the pages of the issued book/books and if pages are missing or if the book is in improper condition then the student/students should report the same to the librarian before leaving the counter.
  • On return of book/books if it is found that the pages are missing or in improper condition and page(s) is/are mutilated then the last borrower shall be held responsible for it.
  • Use of pen, pencil, marking or tearing the pages of the book/books borrowed from library is completely prohibited and in that event the last reader will be liable to compensate by replacing the damaged book with a new book of same author and same edition.
  • In case of damage or loss of library book/books, the last reader will be liable to compensate by replacing the damaged book with a new book of same author and same edition.
  • There shall be no photocopy of Journals. Students have to read/make notes from the Journals during the Library hours.
  • All monetary transaction made in library shall be cashless (through debit/credit card) save and except the clause number VI being mentioned.
  • Price of photocopies will be Rs 2 per page for single side, Rs 3 per page for both sides and the price for printing will be Rs. 5/- per page for each side applicable for students and all staff members (exemptions of such, prior permission from Registrar mandatory).
  • Student can photocopy maximum of 30 pages per day.
