Free Legal Awareness Session at Kurseong College

On the auspicious day of April 19, 2024, the Kurseong College campus buzzed with intellectual fervor as the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and National Service Scheme (NSS) in collaboration with the Legal Aid Society of Indian Institute of Legal Studies orchestrated a profound legal awareness session. The event, held within the hallowed premises of Kurseong College, aimed at enlightening and empowering attendees on various legal facets crucial for societal well-being.

The session delved into diverse topics, seamlessly transitioning from one pertinent issue to another, facilitated by distinguished speakers and student leaders.

1. Cyber Security, Crime, and Career Counseling :

Mr. Ishan Chhetri, the Student Convener of the Legal Aid Committee, captivated the audience with his discourse on the contemporary challenges posed by cybercrime and the indispensable need for robust cybersecurity measures. Moreover, Chhetri's insightful career counseling segment shed light on the intersection of legal studies with professional trajectories, guiding aspiring minds towards fulfilling legal careers.

2. Women's Rights:

Ms. Saloni Giri, with her poised articulation, advocated for the protection and empowerment of women through a comprehensive discussion on women's rights. Giri's impassioned plea resonated deeply with the audience, igniting a collective resolve to champion gender equality and combat gender-based discrimination.

3. Right to Information (RTI) as a Fundamental Right:

Mr. Rohit Tamang took the stage to elucidate the pivotal role of the Right to Information (RTI) Act as a fundamental right in ensuring transparency and accountability within governance structures. Tamang's cogent arguments underscored the transformative potential of RTI in fostering democratic governance and empowering citizens with access to information.
