On 28th April 2023, the Legal Aid Committee of Indian Institute of Legal Studies conducted a legal awareness session at Prerana Educational Centre for the students with disability with the objective of making the students as well as the parents aware of their rights and the ways to reduce the prevalent problems faced by them in the society. The faculty speaker Ms. Arpita Mitra Roy discussed how the people with disability face significant barriers to employment, health and social discrimination. She also addressed how this disabilities requires a multifaceted approach that includes improving access to education, training, employment, healthcare and other support services.

The program was conducted to provide legal literacy on person with disability, lack of infrastructure facilities for the person with disability and various governmental schemes available to the person with disability and ways to avail the schemes. The above topics were discussed by the student speakers from Indian Institute of Legal Studies. The speaker experienced a detailed interactive session with the audience. The speaker received various questions regarding schemes availability and eligibility criteria in India and the question was addressed by the speaker respectively.

The speaker were able to connect with them as they spoke about the basic legal rights and relevant problems that the audience experienced frequently. With that it marked the end of the Legal Awareness Session.
