7th Youth Parliament held on 10-11 December, 2022

Indian Institute of Legal Studies, Siliguri organised their 7th Youth Parliament on 10th and 11th of December, 2022. The college organised the event for the seventh year in commemoration of National Law Day.

The Chief Guest of the Inaugural Ceremony on 10th December was The Hon'ble Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay, Judge, Calcutta High Court. He had an interactive session with the students of the institute as well as the participants from various schools and colleges hailing from different parts of North Bengal, Sikkim, Malda and Kolkata, on the significance of National Law Day. The President of the Session was Shri Joyjit Choudhury, Hon'ble Founder Chairman, Indian Institute of Legal Studies. The dias was graced by Shri Amit Kumar, IG SSB, North Bengal Frontier, Dr. Nupur Das, Registrar (Officiating), University of North Bengal as the special Guests of Honour and Prof. (Dr.) Ganeshji Tiwari, Principal, Indian Institute of Legal Studies, Siliguri.

Around 70 students from various schools and colleges from entire North Bengal region, Sikkim, Malda, and Kolkata participated in the said competition. The judges on both day were Shri C.P. Saxena, DIG, BSF, North Bengal Frontier HQ and Shri Dharam Raj Yadav, Law Officer (Grade 1)(Commandant) BSF, North Bengal Frontier HQ.

The speakers on the first day were Dr. John B. Tirkey, Assistant Professor of Sociology, Bagdogra College and Mrs. Niyamika Verma, Assistant Professor, Indian Institute of Legal Studies, Siliguri. The speakers on the second day were Dr. Pintu Prasad Jaiswal, Assistant Professor of Commerce, Bagdogra College and Ms. Deepika Gahatraj, Assistant Professor, Institute of Legal Studies.

The young parliamentarians debated on the issue of "Clinical Waste Management" on the first day and the notion of "One Nation, One Election" on the second day.

The Valedictory Session was graced by Prof. Om Prakash Mishra, Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor, University of North Bengal as the Chief Guest. The Special Guests of Honour were Shri Akhilesh Kumar Chaturvedi, IPS, Commissioner of Police, Siliguri Metropolitan Police and Shri Ajai Singh, Inspector General, BSF, North Bengal Frontier HQ. Shri Joyjit Choudhury, Hon'ble  Founder Chairman of the institute have delivered the Valedictory address which was followed by the Prize distribution ceremony.
