A special empirical survey on "Analytical study relating to healthcare sector preparedness for future pandemic: In response to COVID-19 " was conducted by a team of 6 students of BA LLB (HONS.), 5 years, Sem V from INDIAN INSTITUTE OF LEGAL STUDIES, SILIGURI under the supervision of Ms. Dichen Bhutia (Asst. Professor of Law).
This team has collectively paid a special visit to the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital to conduct a survey with the permission of the principal of North Bengal Medical College and Hospital, Dr. Indrajit Saha and with the assistance of Dr. Pasang Lamu Sherpa on Wednesday, 27th November 2024
We interviewed the doctors, nursing staff, students and patients to gather information and facts which was effective for this research.
The public healthcare system and facilities has tried to be as effective as possible in providing response and relief during the COVID-19 pandemic and has helped the people as much as possible during the time. The government and administration has tried to provided with immediate budget and supplies and the hospital authority has tried to minimize the effects of the pandemic as much as possible.
Even with all the measures it has been gathered that the implementations and preparedness has been less than satisfactory. The hospital staff found it difficult to manage the exceeding number of COVID affected individuals and due to the lack of time for the preparedness it was difficult to make the people cooperate. The acceptability of relief and vaccines by the people were generally not good. There were too much misinformation and moderate lack of awareness of proper procedures among the patients.
It was also observed that the different groups of people we interviewed has different responses. The medical staffs were more hesitant to provide information regarding the administration compared to the medical students who were more open and informative. The responses of the patients vary the most.
In conclusion, this research shows the decree of preparedness the medical authority and administration had during the COVID-19 pandemic and how it can help in further study the same in case of any future outbreak. So far it can be concluded that it will be more effective that the previous but it still needs much more time and preparation. This research will highlight the problems and point out the necessary changes.
