An internship program with the law student of Indian Institute of Legal Studies, Cooch Behar was organized by the DLSA, Alipurduar on 30.09.2024. The programme was presided by Sri. Dalia Bhattacharjee, Secretary of DLSA, Alipurduar. The internship was exposed to various facets of legal aid, public welfare, and the workings of the Indian legal system.

The primary objectives of the internship were to:

  1. Understand the role and functions of the DLSA.
  2. Gain practical insights into legal aid services.
  3. Observe court proceedings and legal consultations.
  4. Assist in community outreach programs to promote legal awareness.

This experience highlighted the importance of accessible legal services in empowering marginalized communities. The students gained a deeper understanding of how the legal system functions, including the roles of various stakeholders. They were taught in engaging with clients and participating in workshops improved my communication skills, particularly in conveying complex legal concepts in simple terms. Overall it was a transformative experience that enriched the understanding of the legal profession and its impact on society. The opportunity to work directly with community members and contribute to their legal empowerment was both fulfilling and enlightening.
