Abstract: Unfolding Legal Study as a Multidisciplinary Field of Research
Law study in West Bengal and all over country is a great field of research for the future scholars who are passionate about pursuing academic career in legal studies. The study of law has developed into a diverse field that draws on many different academic disciplines and viewpoints. Law used to be primarily thought of as a field of jurisprudence and legal doctrine. However, the study of law has broadened to encompass multidisciplinary approaches in response to the complexity of contemporary society and the realisation that law acts in a wider social, economic, and political context. This multidisciplinary movement is largely due to the realisation that law cannot be fully understood or implemented successfully in isolation. Numerous elements, including social norms, cultural values, economics, psychology, politics, literature, and technology, interact with and have an impact on the law. Therefore, scholars and researchers from different disciplines have started to contribute their expertise and insights to gain a deeper understanding of legal phenomena and its impact on society.
For instance, sociology applies a sociological viewpoint to the study of law, exploring how social structures, power relations, and group behaviours influence legal norms. The study of psychology also helps us understand how people make decisions and how laws affect both individual and group behaviour. Political science examines how the application of law affects governance and policy-making while economics sheds light on the effectiveness and distributional impacts of legal norms and regulations.
Moreover, tackling complex legal issues and challenges requires the use of multidisciplinary legal methodologies. For instance, in order to create effective rules and regulations, environmental law requires knowledge from disciplines like ecology, climatology, and environmental science. To navigate the complex world of innovation and creativity, intellectual property law requires cooperation with professionals in technology and economics. Anthropology, ethics, and international relations all contribute to the protection and advancement of fundamental rights and freedoms through the human rights law.
The study of law can be made more thorough, responsive to societal requirements, and holistic by using a multidisciplinary approach. It enables a deeper investigation of legal matters, fosters creative problem solving, and advances evidence-based policymaking. Therefore, interdisciplinary interactions encourage a deeper comprehension among academics from many disciplines, resulting in richer insights and potential remedies to challenging legal issues. As a result, the study of law has evolved into a multidisciplinary field of inquiry that incorporates viewpoints and research approaches from numerous academic disciplines. This interdisciplinary approach seeks to provide a more in-depth and thorough understanding of legal phenomena while acknowledging the connection of law with other social, economic, and political spheres. Scholars can address difficult legal challenges, advance evidence-based decision-making, and contribute to the creation of a more just and equitable legal system through multidisciplinary research. Hence, there is a considerable scope of research on Law study in West Bengal based on its multidisciplinary approach.
