Forming Questions in English

English sentences can be categorised into four different categories , they are; Declarative sentences, Imperative sentences, Interrogative sentences and Exclamatory sentence. Interrogative sentences are used to ask questions. Integrative sentences can be formed in two different ways. 1) with the help of auxiliary verbs and 2) with the help of WH- words.

Lets take the following sentences:

A)Do you know the way to supermarket?

  1. B) Are you serious?

  2. C) Have you finished your work?

the above stated three sentences start with auxiliary verbs ( they are of three types: Be verb, Do verb and Have verb) and can be answered with the help of Yes or NO.

Let’s see how can we form questions with the help of WH- words i.e. Who, When , Where, Why , How etc. Few examples can be explained in this regard,

  • Who entered the classroom?
  • When did you arrive?
  • Where are your from?
  • Why do you want to go to home?
  • How did finish your project?

The above stated questions can not be answered by the means of yes or no, rather one

needs to provide a specific information in order to suffice the need.
